For the first time since I got a full time job, I’m going to have summer break. Unfortunately Korean companies don’t allow long break, in any occasion. So how long will I be gone? 5 days, including weekend.
This is my second year so I had summer break last year too but I was too exosted by all the hard job so I just chill out then.
This year, thought at least 5 days I have, I’m gonna make a full fun out of it.
.
.
First issue, destination.
5 days, so I could do short overseas like I did in Buddha’s birthday to Hong Kong. I have few options but I’ve decided do domestic this time. Korea is full of travel stops, and I visit many places but since I started travel blog, I feel some kind of obligation to explore more of my own country. Jeju island is perfect for that. Furthermore I seriously need some ‘sun’ time, so Jeju can give me that too.
.
Do you know what is the best part? Flight to Jeju is free!
.
Why? I won a contest months ago by this budget airline. Jin air had an event in Twitter, just a simple quiz and I won. Prize was a free ticket for domestic flight including Jeju island. I use this for next week, so I save over 200,000 won (USD 165). Yay! Things are lining up for me.

Second, accommodation.
Done. Hostel.
.
Third, what to do?
Frankly I don’t have anything in mind. I don’t think get many information as much as you can get is not the best way to travel. Give a little chance to spontaneous. One thing I most want to do is laying down on a beach and get some tan. Will do that definitely but I also really want to do some explore work. Travel blog is not my main job but I really enjoy recognize something about my country as a traveler. It’s really refreshing and I get to appreciate what I already have for a change.

I never visit Jeju island by myself. Family, friends, company and other reasons. That’s why I’m so excited about this trip right now. Like all the reasons I said about solo travel, freedom and creative hanging out is applied for Jeju island this time. Formal trips were fun, no doubt, but it’s different. So I’m staying at hostel, ready to mingle, ready to explore, ready to creative. Oh and I’ll bring my laptop.
Benefit of travel domestic is don’t need to worry about Visa or Passport.
We all worry about these two all the time, well at least under the deep, there’s big burden of these two.
I didn’t even start RTW yet but my stress dream is about travel. I realize I don’t have my passport when I arrive airport. Sometimes I just grab my huge backpack and get on the plane, then realize I don’t have a passport until the landing. (How can I get on the plane anyhow?) Then I stuck in the airport. Little bit different everytime, but it’s always the same, passport issue. Even if I don’t plan a travel, I dream the dream.
Well, this time I don’t have to worry about that for a change. Just need an I.D card to get on the plane. What a simple procedure?

After a lot of mumbling, the point is, I’m super excited!! 🙂
.
Swimsuit, check.
Notepad, check.
Laptop, check.. well, it will be just before I leave. 🙂
Passport, don’t need it.
Plane ticket, check.
Camera, double check.
.

Well, once again,
Let the journey begin!
Have a safe and fun trip!!!! =) I would also be on a short domestic trip within the coming days before I start on a new job first day of next month. I’m also excited to visit new places but not really looking forward to living on a backpack again haha.
@Marnie
Thanks!! 🙂 Congrats on your new job!
And I know, it’s really good feeling backpack on my back. It so comforts me. Well I will bring little backpack because it’s only 5 days but still. it’s good. 🙂
Have fun in Jeju-do! I’d love to go there, too. It’s said the weather is the best in all of Korea. Is that true? Enjoy and wish you have many lovely moments 🙂
@MKL
Yes, It’s quite tropical island. cause it’s so south, so palm trees are growing there. 🙂 It’s beautiful place.
Sometimes feel too much touristic place to be, but now I know how can I find not-touristic places. haha! 🙂
Thanks for your wish Nino! 🙂 You will be seen sooooooo many pictures.
Sounds great – have a wonderful time! What a shame your employers don’t give you more time off though. Makes me realise how lucky we are (even before we left the UK to travel indefinitely I had 6 weeks holiday plus bank holidays).
@Erin
Thanks Erin! And yes.. That’s why I’m trying to get a job in different continent. What I do is fine for another few years but I don’t want to spend whoooole time here, so maybe Europe, (fingers crossed!) or States.. gonna try from end of this year. Wish me luck! But first,, have a blast in Jeju ! 🙂 hehe
I feel the same way about my column and traveling locally. It has really opened up my eyes to the fact that there are cool places within a couple of hours of Chicago, and I am sure you will find the same thing. Have a great summer break and don’t forget the passport, oh wait forget that last part :).
@Ted
Yes its true. I’m here for just two days but I still learn so much about Jeju that I didn’t know before. It’s amazing. Really shame I can’t be here longer. 🙂
Happy holiday! Enjoy each moment!
I’ve never heard of Jeju Island so I’m interested to hear how your vacation went and what you did!
