When you visit cathedrals in Europe, what do you see the first? What does impress you the most? For me, it’s stained glass. The detail, the colour, the story… the amount of effort that all the people put in for this wonderful art piece, is unimaginable. The term stained glass can refer to coloured glass as a material or to works produced from it. Throughout its thousand-year history, the term has been applied almost exclusively to the windows of churches and other significant buildings. The method stained glass is glass that has been coloured by adding metallic salts during its manufacture. The the glass will be crafted into stained glass windows in which small pieces of glass are arranged to form patterns or pictures, held together by strips of lead. It is a piece of art. I’ve seen many impressive stained glass around Europe, but these ones at Notre Dame de Paris were exquisite. They are specifically describing the stories, the people, and the patterns are unique.
