I’m going to Scotland!
This New Year’s Eve, I’ll be welcoming 2014 in a country I’ve never been: Scotland. The biggest midnight moment on the planet, as they say, will be happening at Edinburgh’s Hogmanay with 80,000 people and fireworks. In fact, it was recognized by the Guinness Book of Records in 1996 at the world’s largest New Year’s party with approximately 400,000 people. Hogmanay is the Scots word for the last day of the year and is synonymous with the celebration of the New Year in the Scottish manner.
Last year, Edinburgh’s Hogmanay presented an excellent social media campaign, #blogmanay. This award-winning project is back to highlight the Home of Hogmanay with a team of international travel bloggers, including me. You can see my profile on their tumblr site, and also the other bloggers who are joining the event.
If you want to be a part of #Blogmanay, please read this blog post from the organizers.
How to get involved with #blogmanay
Edinburgh and Beyond
My one-week trip to Scotland is full of exciting activities. I visited Europe for the first time last year but had to skip the United Kingdom. A lot of people couldn’t believe my decision. But don’t worry folks, this December, I’m finally entering Great Britain!
These are some of the programs I’m looking forward to:
- Welcome to #blogmanay at Edinburgh Castle
- The Lord Provost‘s Torchlight Reception and Procession in Edinburgh
- Snowboarding at CairnGorm Mountains in Inverness (heading there by train!)
- Red Hot Highland Fling & New Year in Inverness
- Cruise on Loch Ness
- Highland Wildlife Park
- National Gallery of Scotland private tour
I will be traveling to Scotland from Dec 28, 2013 to Jan 5, 2014.
I haven’t been on the slope since having a snowboarding accident several years ago, but I’ve decided it to make it as my New Year’s challenge. I was going to learn how to dive in the coming year, but I guess first-come first-served! Say yes to the opportunity, right?
Welcoming 2014 with me!
I will be reporting Edinburgh’s Hogmanay and short trips around Scotland on my social media networks. Don’t forget to follow #blogmanay and @RunawayJuno on Twitter, Facebook, Google+, and Instagram!
