Last year, I wanted to present this idea to all of you through Kickstarter, but because I am a Korean citizen, I wasn’t able to register. I present AWE ’13 fundraising project on RunawayJuno.com instead, and many of my friends supported this wonderful project.
So this year, I’m continuing the tradition and asking for your help here again.

What is AWE?

Asian Women’s Empowerment is an organization dedicated to raise awareness and promote empowerment of women in Asian communities, and to encourage Asian women to follow their dreams and thrive with an independent lifestyle.

After the success of AWE 2013, we were convinced that this kind of event and organization was what all participants were looking for.

The AWE ‘14 will feature an inspiring program and workshops designed to promote empowerment and independence of women, to encourage and enable Asian women to break social moulds and restrictions to follow their dreams and achieve their ambitions in a male dominated society.

Through the AWE, we want to spark inspiration and initiate action, and create a support system for Asian women who have the desire to achieve great things.

The conference will feature inspirational keynote speakers, who will share their stories of struggle and success, and provide real-world guidance as well as ambitious messages to all participants, workshops to enrich the experience of those who would like to take the first step towards an independent lifestyle and create a path for future success.

It is not about forming a feminist movement or an exclusive women’s club. It is a conference for both men and women of Asia to participate and collaborate on the possibilities and potentials in a social and positive environment.

How You Can Help

I’m asking you to be a part of this conference as an honorary guest.
I have reduced the attendee price hoping to encourage more women from as many countries as possible. Despite the registration fee ($40-60) being a relatively high cost for participants in this region of the world, the money still doesn’t cover our operating costs.

Where Does Your Money Go?

Your money goes directly to cover the expenses of the conference. Last year, the entire donation covered the honorariums for our speakers. Without your help, AWE ’13 wouldn’t have happened.

We need an auditorium, meeting room, digital equipment, and operating fee for the conference. We also intend to cover the expenses of the speakers and staffs who have set their heart in making this project come to life.

Why Donate?

We seek funding to cover the gap between our ticket and actual costs for the event. The financial risk of not raising enough funds is our biggest obstacle in this project. Using a substantial conference hall is essential to host a global event like AWE. We have reached out to a few other resources for their support, but we have yet to raise the money needed to make this conference run successfully.

Messages from our participants

“AWE Asia 2013 was an amazing event no doubt. The whole event was a lot of fun and most importantly it was needed. As an Asian woman, living in the Asian society, it can be difficult. It was amazing to see so many women who changed that perspective, that it was possible to turn your dreams into reality in this culture and tradition-centered society without abandoning that culture itself.

There were just so many stories during AWE Asia that made me think “oh, I’ve been there, and so has she, I’m not alone!”, it was great to have these women to come from all over the world with so many background and to share them in this event. AWE Asia was inspiring, eye-opening and just simply amazing.”
-Agata Filina, Indonesia-

“It isn’t everyday you get motivation to do anything for ourselves. Everything we do are often for other people, for our parents, for our husbands, for our children and for our employers. Women are so busy taking care of others that we don’t often slow down to think about what we want and where we want to be.

AWE has given us the opportunity to really think about us, about ourselves, our goals and our dreams and with like-minded women in the room who have done it, the event had given me the motivation and inspiration to really think about me.”
-Amy McPherson, Australia
“I personally believe this kind of event should be continued, and even better if it can be done in different countries each year.”
-Amalla Vesta, Indonesia
