Tokyo in Photos

My First Encounter with Tokyo

It was my first time visiting Tokyo. Japan is one of those places that is so close (from Korea) and yet so far. I’ve visited southern parts of the country when I was in university but never had the chance to see the capital city. Finally, for three days we got to explore the Seoul of Japan.

Many people have asked me if Japan is same as Korea. In some way, yes. Certainly, our history is pretty entangled, and geographically we are located in the same region. But for sure, Japan and Korea have their own individual traits. The continuing tension between two countries also makes me feel very aware that I’m a foreigner in Japan. We are very similar but very different people.

Though, it was great to have a chance to get to know my neighbor. I’ve heard so much about Tokyo over the years; the unique culture of Harajuku, stunningly delicious sushi, convenient metro system, and many more. It was my chance to explore them all.

We were there over my birthday in November. Instead of buying me nice things, Stephen took me out to many great signature Japanese meals. He knows the shortcut to a woman’s heart! We got to taste the culinary Big Three of Japan: sushi, tempura, and ramen. But eating was not the only thing we did. We explored the famous Tsukiji fish market, walked along the famous Harajuku, and catch a sunset or two. It’s better for you to see it. Here are photos of foods, landscapes, and people in Tokyo.
