Oh he’s the Cunnamulla fella Yes he’s the Cunnamulla fella

“Oh he’s the Cunnamulla fella. Yes he’s the Cunnamulla fella.”

Cunnamulla, a town that I could never say the name right, remains deep in my heart. It’s a small town lies on the Warrego River, two hours drive from Charleville, and seven hours drive west from Brisbane. I continued the outback expedition by driving to Cunnamulla from Charleville. Besides kangaroos and emus jumping on the road, the drive is fantastic if you like this kind of landscape.

Cunnamulla looks like a middle of nowhere in the outback, but it is surprisingly diverse if you look around. As a historic outback town, the information center museum shows various historical facts and artifacts from the olden days. It also lies on the Great Artesian Basin. Many cattle and sheep farms located near the town, some are open for visitors. Warrego River is a great place for kayaking, camping, and birdwatching, and the naturally formed sand hill is a wonderful playground for everyone. The town itself is quite charming as well. At night, drive five minutes away from the town, and you’ll see the best and brightest night sky.

I slept only a few hours each day in Cunnamulla because I didn’t want to miss a thing. With the guide of Pieta Mills of Out the Back Australia, we did all the activities I mentioned and more. I love this red soil country.
