Winter in Myrtle Beach, SC

Do you go to the beach in the winter? I do. There’s something romantic about the beach in winter: the emptiness, the seagulls, the cold breeze against my cheek, and the early evening sunset. Last February, I had the chance to visit the famous North Myrtle Beach in South Carolina. Thankfully, it wasn’t too cold to enjoy the beach walk morning or night. The climate here is subtropical. Winters are short and mostly mild. Even in February, I only needed a light jacket to walk on the beach. I’ve heard the average temperature here is 77˚ F/25˚ C! With temperatures like that I could feel the warm southern welcome.

Myrtle Beach and North Myrtle Beach, which are only 15 miles apart, are the primary tourist towns along the Grand Strand in the east coast of the United States. It is a major center of tourism because of the warm subtropical climate and long beaches. They are a great place for fishing, boating, shopping, entertainment, golf, resorts, find dining, and beautiful beaches. There’s no shortage of accommodation. Pick your style from hotels and motels to beach houses and vacation rentals. Also, lots of resorts run special packages including golf, dining, attractions, or entertainment; don’t forget to research when planning your vacation!

What I liked the most about my time in the area is the extensive beach. It was probably one of the most comfortable beaches I’ve ever walked on. The sand was firm but soft, the beach mostly flat and smooth, and there were not many seashells around. Maybe I should thank the people who were out collecting shells (there are lots of people doing that). I could walk miles and miles on that beach. Watching the dramatic colors of sunset in the middle of winter, standing on the beach, was a moment I will remember for a long time.
