New York City. The City That Never Sleeps. The most economically powerful city and the leading financial center of the world. New York City holds many titles. As one of the most iconic cities in the world, NYC received 56.4 million visitors and tourism generated the biggest impact for the city last year. The Time Square, Empire State Building, the Rockefeller Center are a few of many tourist attractions. The city is historically significant and wonderfully charming, but it can be overwhelming for those of who are not used to the city life. How about a day trip outside of the city for a change? Thankfully, NYC is conveniently located between other major cities and has countless attractions around.
 

Philadelphia, PA

A city of art and history, Philadelphia is an easy day trip destination from NYC. The Amtrak from Penn Station makes an easy commute. Philadelphia is also a big city but has a different vibe than NYC. Go see the result of Mural Art Program. To this day, they produced more than 3,600 murals around the city. Liberty Bell and Independence Hall is a great way to learn a thing or two about American history. The Franklin Institute houses the Benjamin Franklin National Memorial, and a great science museum. Albany, NY

The capital city of New York state, Albany is often overlooked because of the fame and charm of New York City. But think differ; the city of Albany has the charisma of the state capital, charm of an university town, and much more. The Capital State Plaza that houses New York State Capital is one of the most spectacular capital centers in the US. The plaza was born by Governor Nelson Rockefeller who wanted to create the most electrifying capital in the world. The Erastus Corning Tower in the plaza, or simply known as the Corning Tower contains an observation deck on the 42nd floor. It offers panoramic view of Albany, the Hudson River, and surrounding area.

 


 

Atlantic City, NJ

Boardwalk and casinos; it’s a perfect getaway from the city. The Boardwalk is a destination itself. Everything you want is here within walking distance: shops, fine-dining restaurants, shows, and even casinos. The Atlantic City’s famous Boardwalk began in 1870 and from then on it has become an American icon. Casinos here are not only for serious players, but also those of who want to experience the culture. The gaming action comes in every variety. The buses from Port Authority run all day between Atlantic City and NYC.

If you’re looking to spend a quiet day in the city, visit The Cloisters located in Fort Tryon Park in northern Manhattan. The Cloisters museum and gardens is the branch of The Metropolitan Museum of Art which was assembled from architectural elements, both domestic and religious from the 12th through the 15th century. It consists of five medieval French cloisters, all established here less than a century ago.
 

Bear Mountain State Park, NY

Located in the Hudson Highlands, Bear Mountain State Park is 45 miles from the city and a great place to do some outdoor activities. Hike to the peak provides views of four nearby states: New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and New Jersey. The Trailside Museums and Zoo is set up where the nation’s first self-guided nature trail. The exhibitions feature local geology, Native American and colonial history, animal and nature study, and more. The zoo began as a bear den in 1926 and is currently the home of a wide variety of local injured or rehabilitating animals, including bears, otters, deer, bald eagles, and owls.
