Dochula Pass: The Best Toilet Break

Dochula pass (10,900 feet/3300 meter) is located on the way to Punakha from Thimphu, 16km far. The pass is a popular spiritual destination for both locals and tourists because an important temple is located on the crest of Dochula pass. The visitors hang the prayer flags along the way. It is also an important break point because there’s one of the only proper toilets on the way from/to Punakha.

Also known as the Druk Wangyal Chortens, the construction of these 108 stupas was commissioned by the eldest Queen Mother, Her Majesty Ashi Dorji Wangmo Wangchuk, in honor of His Majesty the 4th King and his 7,000 people for their victory in the war fought in 2003 in Southern Bhutan and for peace and prosperity of the nation. The pass is a popular as it offers a stunning 360 degree panoramic view of the Himalayan mountain range. It was a bit foggy the day I was there, unfortunately, but the snowcap mountains peaked through the cloud at the end. We enjoyed the mystic weather with a cup of yak butter tea and biscuits at a rest stop located nearby.
